VBS is Greater Than Dressed Up Math
Limited Capacity seats available

Improving Value Beyond School within lessons is critical to improving instruction. Yet, scoring at the highest level (4) on the VBS Standard should only happen occasionally and many teachers are satisfied with improving lessons from the lowest score (1-“Naked Math”) to the next level (2-“Dressed Up Math”). So what about a level 3 lesson? This session will focus on improving lessons that meet the criteria for this forgotten level for Value Beyond School. Teachers will experience a level 3-math lesson, identify the characteristics to meet this criterion, and then relate these characteristics to other subjects.
Note: There will be a new task!

Participants please bring your AIW Scoring Manuals.

VBS in Math Part 2
In Part 1, participants explored the differences between Naked Math (1s), Dressed Up Math (2s), and Real Work (3s).  Teachers who engage students in mathematical modeling create opportunities for real work, which increases the value beyond school more than it being “real”.
In Part 2, participants will explore the Math Dial. We will look at what causes the math dial to be too high and how to turn it down so it increases student engagement and value beyond school.  Participants can bring two copies of a textbook lesson/homework/workbook page to practice turning the math dial down.
**Not required to attend part 1 before part 2 but highly recommended.
